Appleseed

(2004)Directed by Shinji Aramaki105 min · RAnimation, Action, Science Fiction
“Humanity's last chance for survival.”

World War III has ended, and the city of Olympus stands as the utopia built from what was left. Deyunan (Ai Kobayashi), a soldier pulled out of the badlands, is brought in and starts searching for data that could restore the bioroids' ability to reproduce. Shinji Aramaki tells it through cel-shaded animation over motion-captured fights, and the story keeps asking who gets to decide what kind of people the world is made of.
