Aria
“Ten great directors. One unforgettable film. The most sensual experience you'll ever have in a movie theater.”
Why would ten directors, among them Ken Russell, Jean-Luc Godard, Robert Altman and Bruce Beresford, each take one aria and answer it with pictures instead of a plot? Producer Don Boyd gave them that single instruction, and the 1987 film strings the results together with almost no dialogue, only the Italian, French and German of the libretti. Roeg's piece has a king (Theresa Russell) and an actor (John Hurt) standing in the opera's light.
