Ariel
In northern Finland in 1988, the mine closes and Taisto Kasurinen (Turo Pajala) loses his work. His father kills himself, and Taisto heads for the city to find another job. Aki Kaurismäki follows him through the working-class districts, where he meets Irmeli Pihlaja (Susanna Haavisto) and Mikkonen (Matti Pellonpää). The frame stays plain and still, with Taisto standing in it, his bag at his feet.
