Phoebe Titus (Jean Arthur) is a pioneer woman who swaggers and swears and runs a freighting company in the Arizona territory. Then Peter Muncie (William Holden) comes through on his way to California, and she softens in ways she did not expect. Wesley Ruggles stages the territory in bright, dusty daylight and keeps the whole picture moving at a cheerful trot.
