A plague is spreading, and the only vaccine on hand is not enough for everyone who needs it. Dr. Martin Arrowsmith (Ronald Colman), a medical researcher, is sent to the outbreak and must decide who gets treated first. John Ford follows him with his wife Leora (Helen Hayes) beside him, her face steady, his own face tired and set.
