As Good as It Gets

Melvin Udall (Jack Nicholson) is a best-selling novelist whose contempt for the world is matched only by the rituals that contain his anxiety. When his neighbor Simon (Greg Kinnear), a painter, is brutally beaten, Melvin finds himself drawn to Carol (Helen Hunt), a waitress caring for her chronically ill son. By the end Melvin sits at a small table across from Carol, the smallest smile crossing his face, both of them still scared but deciding.
