In 1991, two table tennis teams from North and South Korea are ordered to merge into a single squad for the world championships in Chiba, Japan. Hyun Jung-hwa (Ha Ji-won) of the South and Li Bun-hui (Bae Doona) of the North start out as rivals who barely speak, trained under different systems and watched over by their own officials. Moon Hyun-sung follows the two women through the weeks of practice, and what they end up carrying is more than a medal.
