“Romance...or something like it.”

Banished from court by a rival who has seized power, Rosalind (Bryce Dallas Howard) flees into the Forest of Arden with her cousin Celia (Romola Garai). Kenneth Branagh moves Shakespeare's comedy to 19th-century Japan and sets the political feuding and exile against that forest. The courtship at its center plays out among people who have lost their homes, and love is the one thing they still can choose.
