At Home Among Strangers, a Stranger Among His Own

Shilov (Yuri Bogatyryov) is a loyal Red in the years after the Civil War, sent to carry a shipment of gold to Moscow so the people can be fed. The gold is stolen, first by assassins and then by bandits, and Nikita Mikhalkov follows Shilov as he tracks it while his comrades start to doubt him, partly because his brother fought for the Whites. Shilov and Sarychev (Anatoliy Solonitsyn) stand on opposite sides of the question of who can be trusted.
