Aya of Yop City

(2013)Directed by Marguerite Abouet, Clement Oubrerie84 minAnimation, Romance, Comedy

Aya (Aïssa Maïga) is a young woman in Yop City who plans to become a doctor, while her friends Adjoua and Bintou would rather spend their evenings dancing, drinking and flirting. Their own plan is simple: combs, clothes and chasing men. Marguerite Abouet and Clément Oubrerie adapt their graphic novel in drawn color, and Adjoua's pregnancy by the spoiled son of a feared and wealthy man puts all three of them in a harder spot.
