Baal

Baal (Rainer Werner Fassbinder) is a poet who has decided to live as an outcast, drinking and drifting at the edge of respectable society. He takes up with his friend Ekart (Sigi Graue) and moves among women like Sophie (Margarethe von Trotta) and Luise (Hanna Schygulla), answering to no one. Volker Schlöndorff, adapting Brecht's play, left the 1919 setting alone and let some interiors go loud with color, shot by Dietrich Lohmann in his first work in color.
