Background to Danger

(1943)Directed by Raoul Walsh80 min · GThriller, War
“Love in the midst of intrigue!”

A wartime plot is moving through Turkey in 1943, and everyone who knows about it is lying to Joe Barton (George Raft), an American who has stumbled into the middle of it. Colonel Robinson (Sydney Greenstreet) and Nikolai Zaleshoff (Peter Lorre) both seem to know more than they say, and Raoul Walsh keeps the film moving at a run. Joe has no cover and no backing, and he keeps going because turning back would mean admitting he is already in too deep.
