Badlands

“In 1959 a lot of people were killing time. Kit and Holly were killing people.”

Nobody in the small South Dakota town can say why Kit Carruthers (Martin Sheen), a 25-year-old garbage collector, and fifteen-year-old Holly Sargis (Sissy Spacek) leave a trail of bodies across the plains. Terrence Malick, in his first feature, based it loosely on the 1958 Starkweather and Fugate killings. Holly's voice narrates in a flat, girlish drawl, and the two of them move through the badlands.
