Ball of Fire

(1941)Directed by Howard Hawks111 minComedy, Romance, Crime
““I LOVE HIM because he doesn't know how to kiss—THE JERK!””

In 1941, a group of professors have spent years shut up in one house, writing the definitive encyclopedia. Bertram Potts (Gary Cooper) finds his entry on slang hopelessly out of date and heads into the city to learn how people really talk, which is how he meets Sugarpuss O'Shea (Barbara Stanwyck), a nightclub singer who needs somewhere to stay. Howard Hawks fills the quiet, book-lined house with her patter, and the old scholars crowd around to listen.
