Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress

“A tailor-made love story.”

Luo Min (Chen Kun) and Ma Jianling (Liu Ye) are sent to a remote mining village to be reeducated during the Cultural Revolution, and what they want most is a way back to the lives they were pulled from. Then they meet the Old Tailor's granddaughter (Zhou Xun), and they find a hidden suitcase of banned Western novels. Dai Sijie films the village as a place the two young men and the Little Seamstress can slip into the books.
