“She's everything. He's just Ken.”

Barbie (Margot Robbie) wakes in Barbieland with an existential crisis that shouldn't be possible. She and Ken (Ryan Gosling) travel to Los Angeles to find the child playing with her and fix what's broken, but the real world doesn't match the pastel dream they left. Gerwig dresses the film in hot pink and primary colors so vivid they seem to glow from within, and by the end, Barbie stands in an ordinary bedroom in ordinary clothes, simply herself.
