Peter Kleist (Antonio Cantafora) comes back to Austria to learn where his family came from, and the answer is a castle belonging to an ancestor remembered for torturing people. The Baron had a witch burned at the stake, and she cursed him to die a violent death. Mario Bava lets Peter read the old incantation aloud, and the family's cruelty turns out to be a Baron who can still be called back from the dead.
