Barry

“Before he was Barack, he was Barry”

Barack "Barry" Obama (Devon Terrell) is a new transfer student at Columbia University in 1981, trying to work out who he is in a city where he fits no easy category. Vikram Gandhi follows him through classes, parties and uneasy talks about race and family with his friend PJ (Jason Mitchell). The closest tie is with Charlotte (Anya Taylor-Joy), a white student whose world he moves through carefully, and each of them sees what the other cannot.
