Bartleby

“I would prefer not to.”

A new hire named Bartleby (Crispin Glover) starts work at a modern office, where the Boss (David Paymer) runs a staff of oddballs that includes Vivian (Glenne Headly), Rocky (Joe Piscopo) and Ernest (Maury Chaykin). When asked to do the job he was hired for, Bartleby answers, politely and without raising his voice, that he would prefer not to. Jonathan Parker adapts Melville's story with a sitcom's quick humor and a thread of surrealism in the office setting.
