Basquiat

(1996)Directed by Julian Schnabel107 min · RDrama, History
“In 1981, a nineteen-year-old unknown graffiti writer took the New York art world by storm. The rest is art history.”

Nobody in downtown New York can say where the tag SAMO comes from, only that it keeps showing up on walls, scrawled by a kid sleeping on the street. Jean Michel Basquiat (Jeffrey Wright) is that kid, and Julian Schnabel, a painter himself, follows him from the pavement into galleries and the orbit of Andy Warhol (David Bowie). The friendship with Warhol pulls two very different kinds of fame together, and each man keeps the other close.
