“THE STORY OF A PATROL OF 13 HEROES”

In 1942, Sgt. Bill Dane (Robert Taylor) and a mixed squad of American soldiers get orders to blow up a strategic bridge in the Philippines and hold the ground behind it. The Japanese start rebuilding the span and pushing forward, while the men fight hunger, sickness and the likelihood that no relief is coming. Tay Garnett shoots the whole stand in black and white, crowding the squad into a few feet of jungle.
