“Could you kill your best friend?”

Shuya Nanahara (Tatsuya Fujiwara), a ninth-grade student, is taken with his classmates to an island and given weapons and explosives. Their teacher Kitano (Takeshi Kitano) explains the rules: they have three days to kill each other until one survivor remains, or all will die. Fukasaku stages the massacre across dozens of faces and fractured moments, treating each death as a weight the film refuses to lighten.
