Battle Royale

“Could you kill your best friend?”

Shuya Nanahara (Tatsuya Fujiwara) is a ninth-grader whose class is taken by the Japanese government and sent to fight to the death under a new law called the Battle Royale act. Their teacher Kitano (Takeshi Kitano) runs the game, and Shuya sticks close to Noriko Nakagawa (Aki Maeda), a classmate he wants to keep alive. Kinji Fukasaku films the forty-two students as individual faces, so each name on the roll feels like someone you knew.
