Mitch Buchanan (Dwayne Johnson) runs a lifeguard tower on a crowded Miami beach with the kind of easy authority that comes from years of sun and salt. When Matt Brody (Zac Efron) arrives as a new recruit, all ego and gym muscle, Mitch has to turn him into a competent lifeguard while a crime boss (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) moves through the beach like she owns it. The tower glints in the afternoon light, the ocean endless and blue behind them.
