“Surfs up and the Beach is really swinging!”

Professor Sutwell (Robert Cummings) takes his secretary Marianne (Dorothy Malone) down to the shore in 1963 to study the mating habits of teenagers, notebook out and binoculars ready. What he finds is Frankie (Frankie Avalon) and Dolores (Annette Funicello) leading a crowd that mostly surfs, sings and dances to Dick Dale and the Del Tones. William Asher films it all in bright, flat daylight, with the band set up right on the sand.
