“Takin' the beat to the streets!”

Kenny Kirkland (Guy Davis) is a young DJ in the South Bronx who spins records for whoever will listen. His best friend Tracy Carlson (Rae Dawn Chong) is the promoter, and together they try to get hip-hop into the clubs and onto bigger stages. Stan Lathan fills the film with breakdancers, graffiti writers and turntable crews, and Kenny keeps working the decks, sure the music can get him somewhere.
