“They’re Out To Beat the Devil At His Own Game!”

In 1953, a gang of swindlers is stuck in an Italian port town, waiting on a delayed boat to Africa and a bogus uranium claim they mean to stake. Billy Dannreuther (Humphrey Bogart) is a broke former hanger-on to the crooks, married to Maria (Gina Lollobrigida), and he trusts none of them. John Huston and Truman Capote write him a man who keeps trying to look unbothered while his wife and the Chelms circle the same sour little scheme.
