“YOU WILL SEE HER TRANSFORMED BY THE WONDEROUS NEW TECHNICOLOR”

In early nineteenth-century England, Becky Sharp (Miriam Hopkins) leaves a girls' school with no money, no family, and a plan to rise through the houses of the rich. Her friend Amelia Sedley (Frances Dee) has everything Becky lacks, and Cedric Hardwicke plays the Marquis of Steyne among the powerful men she hopes to charm. Rouben Mamoulian shot this as the first feature in three-strip Technicolor, and he fills the ballrooms with color.
