Begum Jaan

“My Body. My House. My Country. My Rules.”

Begum Jaan (Vidya Balan) runs a brothel on the eve of Independence, and the women in it, Gulabo (Pallavi Sharda) and Rubina (Gauahar Khan) among them, answer to no one else. Then Sir Cyril Radcliffe draws the border between India and Pakistan, and his line runs straight through her house. Srijit Mukherji's film is about what happens when a country's borders are drawn across the only home a person has.
