Behind the Candelabra

“Too much of a good thing is wonderful.”

Scott Thorson (Matt Damon) is a young man looking for somewhere to belong when he is introduced to Liberace (Michael Douglas), the pianist who has made a fortune on rhinestones and flamboyant showmanship. Liberace takes him in and pulls him into a six-year relationship, with Scott as lover and companion. Soderbergh films Liberace's world of wealth and spectacle at close range, with Douglas and Damon given room to play the tenderness and the strain between them.
