“Passion. Obsession. Revenge. Prepare for the performance of a lifetime.”

Julia Lambert (Annette Bening), the wealthy, celebrated star of the London stage, has begun to feel bored by a career her husband Michael (Jeremy Irons) built for her. Then a handsome young American fan takes an interest, and she lets the fling begin. István Szabó follows the affair as Julia stakes her marriage, her standing and her place in the theatre on a few months of feeling alive.
