Belladonna of Sadness

“A soul wandering in love… Belladonna, a flower that blooms with the sap of tears…”

On her wedding night, Jeanne (Aiko Nagayama) is seized by the feudal lord who rules her village, and the cruelty that follows ruins both her and her husband Jean (Takao Itō). Cast out, she makes a pact with the Devil (Tatsuya Nakadai) for the power to take revenge. Eiichi Yamamoto tells it in watercolor paintings that bleed and shift, and she stays at the center of every frame.
