Belle

“Based on the inspiring true story”

Dido Elizabeth Belle (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) is the illegitimate, mixed-race daughter of a Royal Navy admiral, and she wants a place in English society that her birth does not allow. Taken in by her great-uncle Lord Mansfield (Tom Wilkinson), she lives among the gentry but cannot sit at their table. Amma Asante keeps her close to the campaign against slavery, and Dido stands in the great house, wearing its fine fabrics, among people who will not look at her for long.
