Séverine Serizy (Catherine Deneuve) has a kind, attentive husband in Pierre (Jean Sorel) and a life with nothing missing, yet her private fantasies are of being punished and degraded. When her friend Henri (Michel Piccoli) mentions an elite brothel run by Madame Anais, she starts working there on weekday afternoons as Belle de Jour. Luis Buñuel keeps her two lives apart, and the gap between them grows wider.
