Bells Are Ringing

Ella Peterson (Judy Holliday) works the switchboard in the basement of Susanswerphone, an answering service, and she can't stop listening to the lives on the other end of the line. She makes up new voices and identities for her clients, among them an out-of-work Method actor, a dentist with musical yearnings, and a blocked playwright, Jeffrey Moss (Dean Martin). Vincente Minnelli turns the cramped office and the city around it into a bright, busy musical stage.
