Brent (James Franciscus) is an astronaut sent to find the crew of an earlier mission, and he crash-lands on a planet where apes rule and humans are hunted. With the mute woman Nova (Linda Harrison) at his side, he looks for Taylor (Charlton Heston) while Zira (Kim Hunter) and Dr. Zaius (Maurice Evans) keep to their own purposes. Ted Post shoots the sequel in rough, grainy 1970s stock, and the search keeps pushing downward.
