“In a time of war, they found themselves in the most dangerous place of all. In love.”
Berlin in the mid-1930s, after the Night of the Long Knives, is a city where men like Max (Clive Owen) have to keep moving. After a night with a German soldier, Max runs, and the run ends in a concentration camp, where he claims to be Jewish because the Nazis rank gay men lowest of all. Sean Mathias builds the film around Max and Horst (Lothaire Bluteau), a prisoner who refuses to hide, and the plain fact that a person cannot live without someone to love.
