(1977)Directed by Giuseppe Bertolucci95 minComedy

Mario Cioni (Roberto Benigni) is a young poet in a small Tuscan town, loud and tender and always about to recite a poem. He falls for a sophisticated woman who hates poetry, and he sets out to win her with verse anyway, with some help from his mother (Alida Valli). Giuseppe Bertolucci makes his debut here, and Mario keeps reaching for the one gift she has already refused.
