Bernard and Doris

Bernard Lafferty (Ralph Fiennes), an Irish butler with a drinking problem, goes to work in the household of Doris Duke (Susan Sarandon), the tobacco heiress and philanthropist. Bob Balaban's film, adapted by Hugh Costello from the real relationship, follows the unlikely friendship that grows between the two in her later years. Sarandon sits in the great house with her butler, the staff moving through the rooms around them.
