Why does a small reception turn into a bank-breaking production? Because Eddie Hopper (Alan Alda), a Long Island contractor, feels threatened by his daughter's rich WASP in-laws and can't stop spending. His wife Lola (Madeline Kahn) watches the bills pile up in a panic while Betsy and her fiancé Jake just want a small, simple reception. Alan Alda writes and directs a family that argues over money because it is easier than saying they are afraid of losing her.
