“Insanity doesn't run in the family, it gallops.”

Lane Meyer (John Cusack) is dumped by his girlfriend Beth Truss (Amanda Wyss) for Roy Stalin (Aaron Dozier), the high school ski champion, and he decides his life is over. Savage Steve Holland fills the days that follow with Lane's strange family, a paperboy who keeps showing up for his two dollars, and a neighbor whose house is hosting a French exchange student. Monique Junot (Diane Franklin) is the first person who seems to like him as he is.
