In 1986 France, Zorg (Jean-Hugues Anglade) paints beach bungalows for a living and writes a novel nobody has seen. Betty (Béatrice Dalle), his younger girlfriend, reads those pages and decides he deserves a bigger life than the one he has. Jean-Jacques Beineix watches Zorg stay beside her as her moods grow harder to predict, and he has no idea how to stop loving her.
