Between the Temples

Ben Gottlieb (Jason Schwartzman) is a cantor who has lost his wife and, with her, his ability to sing in front of a congregation. His life shifts when Carla Kessler (Carol Kane), the grade school music teacher he remembers, turns up as his adult Bat Mitzvah student. Nathan Silver films the two of them in close, unsteady scenes, letting their odd friendship crowd the frame.
