Beyond a Reasonable Doubt

(1956)Directed by Fritz Lang80 minCrime, Drama
“Put them all together they spell M-U-R-D-E-R!”

Newspaper publisher Austin Spencer (Sidney Blackmer) is sure the city's hard-line district attorney sends men to the chair on circumstantial evidence alone. He talks Tom Garrett (Dana Andrews), who hopes to marry his daughter Susan (Joan Fontaine), into planting clues that point to himself as the killer of a nightclub dancer. Fritz Lang's last American picture follows Tom as he goes along with it, a quiet, agreeable man who has agreed to be hunted.
