Beyond Silence

“About life, love and the sound of snow.”

In a German household where both parents are deaf, young Lara (Tatjana Trieb) is the one who speaks for them, signing what hearing people say to Martin (Howie Seago) and his wife. Caroline Link follows her into adolescence, when Lara (Sylvie Testud) takes up music and wants to play it. The film is about the pull of a love your family cannot hear, and what you owe them if you follow it.
