Beyond the Blackboard

“A first-time teacher makes a difference in the lives of homeless children”

Stacey Bess (Emily VanCamp) is a 24-year-old new teacher in Albuquerque in 1987, and the job she is handed turns out to be a school with no name, one room inside a homeless shelter. There are no books, hardly any supplies, and children who have learned to expect very little from adults. Jeff Bleckner follows her as she sets out to teach them, a young mother who first has to get past her own assumptions about the families she is meant to help.
