Beyond the Clouds

A film director (John Malkovich) travels from place to place hunting for his next story, and four of them find him. Michelangelo Antonioni, working from a screenplay shared with Wim Wenders and Tonino Guerra, gives each tale to a woman: Patricia (Fanny Ardant), a Mistress (Chiara Caselli), and two characters each called The Girl. These are brief encounters between people who want each other, and the film treats the wanting as its own kind of life.
