In the year 2005, a robot named Andrew (Robin Williams) is purchased by a wealthy family and placed in their home to serve them. Over two centuries, he begins to desire things no robot should want: to create art, to fall in love with Portia (Embeth Davidtz), to become human. What makes a life worth living is not the body you inhabit, but the choices you make to connect with others.
