Big Jake

“They wanted gold. They gave them lead instead!”

In 1909 Texas, the cattle country has started to give way to automobiles and telephones, and Jacob McCandles (John Wayne) is a rancher who has outlived most of what he knew. When outlaws led by John Fain (Richard Boone) take his grandson, his estranged wife Martha (Maureen O'Hara) sends for him. George Sherman films it in Technicolor, and Wayne rides on, an old man on a horse, in the glare.
