A woman with green eyes vanishes from San Francisco's Chinatown, and the men who took her answer to a sorcerer named David Lo Pan (James Hong). Truck driver Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) only came along to help his friend Wang Chi (Dennis Dun) get his fiancée back, and John Carpenter sends him down into the tunnels beneath the neighborhood. Underneath the jokes sits a plain idea: the man who talks like the hero is not always the one the story needs.
