Billy Elliot

(2000)Directed by Stephen Daldry111 min · RDrama, Comedy, Music
“Inside every one of us is a special talent waiting to come out. The trick is finding it.”

Billy Elliot (Jamie Bell) is eleven, and he leaves his boxing club one day in County Durham in 1984 and walks into a ballet class instead. Stephen Daldry sets the story against the miners' strike, with Billy's father Jackie (Gary Lewis) and brother Tony (Jamie Draven) out on the picket line. Mrs Wilkinson (Julie Walters) sees what Billy can do and starts preparing him for an audition in Newcastle, while at home no one knows he's dancing.
